Bubs about town Partner Nat (an Early Childhood Educator) shares her experiences with pop up toys...The great thing about pop up toys is they can be used for any age. There are really simple ones that your 6 month old baby would begin to notice, reach out to and touch, such as a simple "Jack in the Box". An alternative for older babies are the ones that can concentrate on different fine and gross motor skills like the one shown above. As your child begins to have the strength and coordination to push the lids down they will also start to push the button that will make a character pop up. There are usually four 'action' buttons, from a simple push to a side push action to a turn action and a slide over action, your child will be practicing their coordination and concentration skills while having fun at the same time. As your child grows there is also a range of pop up games that can be played to teach turn taking and social skills, whilst having that familiar action/reaction concept such as Pop up Pirate. They have been around for many years, the concept has remained the same, but the colours and objects have changed, and the fine and gross motor skills they have incorporated has expanded.

You can buy them from most stores that sell children’s toys and the prices start from $29.95
